"Book 5 starts immediately where 4 leaves off, following the continued adventures of our plucky protagonist with rage issues. He’s been forced to make sense out of the consequences of the end of book 4, while trying to figure out how to save as many humans as possible.
Enter: the Americans. We finally get to see what the US folks are up to, and continue our development of North American cities (excluding Mexico - for now) and the different situations different surviving humans have gotten into.
This book is an adventure novel that expands the scope of the story even further - and ends with a bang. I look forward to seeing book 6 ASAP."

Coast on Fire An Apocalyptic LitRPG The System Apocalypse Book 5 Audible Audio Edition Tao Wong Nick Podehl Books Reviews
- Book 5 in the series starts off with lots of talking. There’s less action in the beginning and more upkeep about how the main character (MC) is dealing with being a leader and the individual community needs versus his capacity to manage it all. More politics, alliance talking, maneuvering among factions. The MC is looking to free Canadian cities from aliens or make alliances against bigger galactic dominance. The big fights are scattered through the middle of the story with the really big ones at the end, much like other books in the series.
Overall, this is a fine book in an action focused series. It’s a bit slow towards the beginning with all the political maneuvering, but the large scale PvP like battles are good when it gets there.
Score 7.2 out of 10 - On the whole I really liked this book. As some have mentioned the transitions between action and managing settlements was occasionally jarring and probably could have used some smoothing out. Part of this is because the main character has little patience with people or the settlements. There is a lot of action though as humanity starts to get its feet under it. I really would like to see more characters seeing the big picture so the whole movement doesn't rest on the main character so much. Really looking forward to the next installment, without any spoilers the setup seems epic.

This book is an adventure novel that expands the scope of the story even further - and ends with a bang. I look forward to seeing book 6 ASAP. - John and Co continue to stabilise the cities/towns under their control, all whilst dealing with the how to improve the city and minimise control from outside influences.
Forging alliances and helping others, he ends up in the battle for LA, and meets more Erethran honour guards in a twist at the end of the book.
Really looking forward to the next in the series - Bloody but intresting mix of modern medival and magic warfare and strategy.
Well besides that is mainly the main char and his battle to save as much as possible of the mixed bag that is huamity.
The ending cliffhanger hints at a change of location and focus for a bit.
But that too will be intresting indeed to follow.
Nothing of it i have found booring in the least, it some how all fit into a whole story that is way cool, andeven thoght provoking, as I too wonder how things are run/works, and what that means in turn. - Book5 so you need to read 1 thorough 4, all worth it.
Be warned its fast fun hard to put down read.
The ending wants me to chock the ed ver loving hell or of the author be cause book 6 well be epic and the foreshadowing beyond makes me want the next books now... it's going to bug me for months as all the probabilities roll around in my head.
Evil evil author - This series of books is extremely entertaining. It seems like at this point the case of characters has more or less solidified and everyone is pretty likable. John is finally growing and with every book I can feel that his character is coming alive more and we're reading less and less about his anger management issues and angst.
While John seems to be growing he also seems to be becoming a little more broken all the while. There is rarely a time where you feel like he's going to be in any real danger. Although, that may be changing. With the cliffhanger ending and the US knowing a lot more about his abilities I think we're going to see some double cross. I would have loved to see John take rather than play nice as he gallivants across the western US. Can't wait to read the next one to see how more broken he gets. - A great continuation to the best Sci-Fi ish LitRPG I've found here. The series is getting long enough now that occasionally references are made to previous decisions the MC has made and I can't remember the justifications for it, Leading me to about to re-read the series. Not the strongest in the series but a nice balance base building, politics, action, and maybe a little light on skill development and testing (never uses the ultimate protection skill even though he leveled it) but I can see that coming around in the next book.
Keep up the good work, sir!
